Brewers Sign Brett Lawrie!
First Round Draft (16th overall) Pick Brett Lawrie has signed a contract with the Milwaukee Brewers today. The Lanley, BC (Canada) prepstar. There are no figures given, only JSOnline.com reported that his sign-on bonus was probably close to 1.6mm. Unfortunately, Lawrie will not be reporting to rookie league, down in AZ nor will he play with any other affiliate of the Brewers this summer. He has prior commitments to his motherland, Canada, and will be flying out with them today over to Beijing China for the Olympics (w/ his sister, who is also competiting).
-As I mentioned before, Lawrie has been rake'n for the junior Canada team by leading all batters with a .469 batting average. In addition, he belted 3 HR's and 16 runs batted in.
-This kid should make the Bigs in about 3 years. He has the maturity and drive to perhaps make it even sooner!
-This makes me a happy Brewer fan today. He is the golden child.
